Cartabox

Overview

Founded in 2009, Cartabox is the continuation of an entrepreneurial activity in the corrugated cardboard sector.

For many years, Cartabox has relied on digital cutting technology to support development and customer service, using a Kongsberg XL24 primarily for sample making. As market demand evolved, the company identified the need to strengthen its production capabilities while maintaining flexibility and quality.

To support this ambition, Cartabox installed a Kongsberg Ultimate with Feeder & Stacker, focusing on automation, productivity, and reliable production performance.

The challenge

Cartabox faced two main challenges in its production environment.

First, small production runs were being processed on older machines and manual or semi-automatic lines. These processes required multiple production stages and manual interventions, which limited productivity and created operational complexity.

Second, Cartabox needed to respond to new market demands, particularly in the furniture sector, where customers increasingly request a shift from polystyrene to cardboard-based protective elements. This required the ability to process new materials and develop sustainable packaging solutions without compromising efficiency.

The solution

Cartabox installed the Kongsberg Ultimate with Feeder & Stacker as a fully automated digital cutting production line.

The Ultimate complements the existing Kongsberg XL24, creating a clear distinction between customer service and production:

• The Kongbserg XL24 remains dedicated to sampling and development,
• While the Kongsberg Ultimate is used as a true production line.

Avoiding a whole series of different production stages and doing it all with a single line with automatic loading and unloading allows us to have reliable production times and lower production costs.

The results

Automation has delivered a significant increase in productivity at Cartabox. By consolidating multiple production stages into a single automated process, the Kongsberg Ultimate with Feeder & Stacker enables reliable production times and lower production costs.

Once loaded with sheets, the Kongsberg Ultimate with Feeder & Stacker can operate independently, including beyond normal working hours, depending on the job logic. This enables stable, predictable production planning while reducing the need for manual intervention.

Cartabox also moved small production runs onto the Ultimate because it guarantees product quality and speed, ensuring consistent output across different jobs.

In addition, the Ultimate supports the processing of a wide range of materials, from microflute to honeycomb board, enabling Cartabox to respond to growing demand for sustainable, low-impact packaging solutions.

Automation upstream and downstream makes the line completely independent and autonomous. It can work even beyond normal working hours, which is a significant increase in productivity.
