i-cut Production Console

The only software you need to run your Kongsberg table

iPC (i-cut Production Console) is an integrated software suite that comes with your Kongsberg cutting table.

Optimize your cutting

iPC’s intuitive user interface enables straightforward and efficient operation. The improved front-end allows operators to get the most out of the Kongsberg tables while optimizing day to day production.

  • Import files & automatic file set-up
  • Set up customized production runs
  • Calibrate tools & save settings
  • Set up standard production workflows
  • Create simple designs and layouts
  • Run production manually or fully automated
  • Plan a production run by connecting to an ERP/MIS

Essentially, iPC is the only software you need to run your Kongsberg table.

Easy job setup

iPC makes it easy to setup jobs based on the material or substrate you’ll use.

These settings are stored in ‘Tooling Presets’, which you could see as a cutting profile for your Material.

iPC also comes with an extensive library of material tooling presets for the most common materials used in the market. If you don’t find you specific material in the list, you can create and store your custom cutting profile in iPC.

Material is key

Material is key:
Tooling presets & material library

The most powerful workflow defines material in the ‘upstream’ application that creates the design or layout.

The cut file will automatically load with the correct tooling and production presets in iPC. This saves significant setup and operator time.

The operator can also manually select the material and linked tooling preset in one click. iPC is designed to recognize or interpreted any line type via spot color, layer name or line type setting from a CAD system.

Plan & track your production

Plan your production better with estimation of cutting times based on geometry of the design, number of copies, tool settings... You can change settings and iPC will update the production time immediately.

iPC comes with a 'My Jobs' list with links to all jobs waiting to be produced. You can sort jobs based on criteria like due date or material. There’s also an overview of the jobs you’ve already finished.

iPC allows you to track job progress. You can monitor job status, remaining production time and copies produced & remaining.

i-cut Production Console: barcode registration

Production via barcode

iPC reads the printed barcode on the material and automatically identifies and loads the corresponding job file without operator intervention. The production is started using predefined tooling and production presets. When a job is complete, the production continues, starting with a new feeding sequence. This workflow enables continuous production of various jobs.

Accurate cuts with advanced camera registration

iPC uses advanced algorithms for accurate camera registration. The camera in the tool head, or the underside camera, identifies printed registration on the materials and compensates for materials with a distorted print. For unprinted sheets ‘Edge Recognition’ is available. This results in accurately cut materials.

The Underside Camera allows automatic cutting of corrugated material that needs to be produced with the printed side facing down. A revolutionary system first scans the sheet and then cuts and creases from the opposite side.

Different registration types & distortion compensation

Different registration types & distortion compensation

In order to achieve perfect print to cut alignment, all printed jobs destined for finishing with your iPC device should contain registration marks.

By adding registration marks to both the print and cut files, you are providing iPC with the necessary information to register the cut path to the printed graphic. In iPC you can choose between different ways of registering the cut file on to the printed file, depending in the application, substrate sensitivity or simply following the print or cutting true to size with single or nested jobs.

For roll-to-roll applications registration on jobs that exceed the table length or Jobs longer than your cutting table will be divided and produced by iPC in sections. Adding registration marks along these divisions will improve registration and alignment of cut paths between sections.

Advanced milling support

iPC offers automatically generated curves for washouts, lead-in and lead-outs, multi passing and tool diameter compensations. For milling jobs that require multiple bit changes, the ‘stop at tool select’ function in iPC help the operator to smoothly change bits between different layers.

Kongsberg Automation: Take-Up Unit

Streamline your production with automation

There are multiple options in iPC for Kongsberg’s various automation solutions, including, Feeder & Stacker, Robotic Material Handler and Motorized Roll Feed production.

iPC also handles the MultiZone production: the surface of the Kongsberg table is divided into two zones or work areas. This allows production in one zone, while the operator offloads the finished jobs and put on new material in the other zones, with a full automatic vacuum control.

The operator can use the back of the cutting table in combination with the automatic conveyor feed to work in a semi-automatic way to feed sheets onto the table (manual conveyor feed). After each job iPC will command to feed one or more sheet lengths and repeat cutting of the same or different jobs. This can also be done in combination with QR code production.

iPC takes care of the production of jobs longer than the cutting table, typically banners. The job is split into several parts with the conveyor feed between each part. iPC uses the camera to identify registration marks so it can compensate for stretch or shrink in the material itself, for distortion during printing and for inaccurate conveyor feed.
