Since 2016, wide-format printing group, Grey Squirrel Digital have specialised in the production of boxes, signage and graphics, including lawn and banner signs and vehicle and trade-show graphics. Based in West Berlin, New Jersey, the company initially invested in a latex printer, as well as a laminator and made its first cutting device investment in 2019.

Recognising the Need for Growth

Following a rise in demand that highlighted that their current finishing system could not keep up with production speeds, placing greater pressure on their in-house labour, Brian Smith, Owner, Grey Squirrel, set out to find a new cutting solution. The company recognised the need for growth and looked for new technology that would allow them to further scale operations by entering new vertical markets - such as packaging - and expanding its routing capabilities. Increasing cutting precision also became a priority for Brian and the C24 has the ability to deliver long-term, consistent accuracy.

Kongsberg PCS – A Call to Action

In January of 2025, Grey Squirrel invested in the Kongsberg C24 which saw immediate improvements in quality, accuracy and efficiency. With the support of this solution, alongside a demonstration from one of our expert technicians, provided with the Grey Squirrel team to resume operation smoothly, completing production runs up to four minutes faster than the company’s other devices – in just under two minutes a piece.

With the Kongsberg, the speed at which we can now run blades through materials has tripled. This significant increase has enabled us to also save on both manual labour and material waste.

The End Result

Five months on and Grey Squirrel are able to deliver cost, quality and speed to its customers, cutting through an array of materials, and, with the reduction in manual labour, the company have ensured maximum return on investment (ROI). By the end of this year, the company aim to invest in another Kongsberg solution, which will inevitably contribute to the growth of their business even further, with plans to expand into new vertical markets.

As a company, we are now able to transition into not just packaging, but to even more markets - including trade-show furniture – a sustainable end result that we couldn’t provide before.
