Empowering Diversification in Corrugated, Signage, Display and Packaging Operations at FESPA 2026

May 11, 2026

The packaging industry is evolving quickly. Demand for more sustainable substrates, combined with the versatility of modern large-format digital printers, is creating new opportunities for businesses to diversify into corrugated, signage, display and packaging applications.

However, corrugated media brings its own set of production challenges. As Smithers highlights, this is driving increased investment in advanced digital cutting and finishing solutions.

In conversations with customers worldwide, I also see familiar pressures: rising costs, shorter runs, and higher expectations for quality and sustainability. Long-term, future ready investment - in both equipment and production partners - is becoming essential.

At Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems (PCS), we combine high-performance cutting tables with a partnership-led, consultative approach. This means helping customers optimize workflows, introduce automation where it delivers clear ROI, expand into new applications, and future-proof investment with modular upgrades.

From strategy to real-world results

A strong example of this collaborative approach is our work with customer, Cartabox, a corrugated specialist based in Italy. As demand shifted toward shorter runs and more sustainable packaging, Cartabox wanted to strengthen production capability while maintaining flexibility and quality.

By working consultatively, we aligned on a scalable roadmap that took into account their customers, applications and long-term growth plans. This led Cartabox to invest in a Kongsberg Ultimate with an automated Feeder & Stacker.

With production speeds up to 165 m/min, the system reduced manual handling and improved consistency across both short and longer runs. It also expanded material capability - from microflute to honeycomb board - supporting a broader range of sustainable, low-impact packaging applications.

By combining technical innovation with genuine partnership, Kongsberg PCS helps packaging, sign and graphics producers grow with confidence - diversifying their offering while strengthening their competitive position.

At FESPA Global Print Expo 2026 (stand 3-C111), we’re bringing these collaborations to life. Visitors can see technologies including the Kongsberg Ultimate and our flagship Kongsberg C- and X-series, and speak with experts about optimizing workflows and expanding into corrugated, sign or display applications.
