Customer Story
Berma
Increased productivity and superior cutting of demanding substrates on Kongsberg C66, allows Berma to reduce labor needs and penetrate new business.
Founded in 2015, Berma specializes in display and in-store decoration, with 90% of its output made from corrugated cardboard. As its former cutting machines were no match for thicker substrates, the Portuguese company needed a solution that could handle high volumes of complex materials, while delivering high‑quality cutting results.
To sustain its rapid growth, Berma needed a cutting solution built for speed, durability, and continuous operation. As such, the company bought its first Kongsberg C66 in 2018. Only two years later, another C66 was added. More recently, Berma has upgraded one of them with a Feeder & Stacker to automate its production process.
The advantage of the C66, that we acquired, was productivity, because it’s a very fast and reliable machine and at the end of the day that is very important!
Berma’s investment in automation allows the team to run production overnight, ensuring cut materials are ready by the next morning. This significantly decreased labor costs, which resulted in a higher ROI.
By placing a pallet with material, we could let the machine run without the operator’s presence. The factory shuts down, the staff leaves, and the machine keeps working through the night, so the next morning the material is cut.
When the team investigated AIMPLAS, a more demanding rigid material used as a polyurethane substitute, they found the C66 to deliver clean, consistent cuts without compromise. Reliably processing such a challenging material, that many other cutting systems struggle to handle, empowered Berma to diversify its offering beyond traditional corrugated applications.
The extremely fast throughput, the ability to run unattended production overnight, and the exceptional performance on rigid materials, have delivered measurable financial and operational gains for Berma. Since adopting the Kongsberg C66, Berma has significantly increased production volume, lowered labor requirements, and safeguarded its expansion into profitable new business segments.
