The challenge
A shift to sustainable cardboard-based solutions
Data Image Group supplies predominantly into the retail sector and was seeing a real shift in materials being used, away from traditional plastics, wood and metal, with customers wanting to use more sustainable cardboard-based solutions.
There was a real gap with the tooling Data Image currently had on the Kongsberg. When designing something with multiple angles, production would have to either double handle it, do a lot of tool changes, or there were some angles that simply could not be achieved.
The solution
Opening up creativity with the VariAngle tool
Data Image purchased the VariAngle tool from Kongsberg to help facilitate making 3D constructions out of cardboard and to open up its creativity when designing with these materials.
The VariAngle can cut a 15 degree angle and switch to a 90 degree angle or 20 degree angle without double handling. It is set up once, so operators do not have to repeatedly change the blade, and it can be left running with multiple angles at speed.
The result
Increased productivity and a creative advantage
Using the VariAngle tool has increased Data Image’s productivity. What previously would have required two or three tools, with tool changes and setups on the machine, can now be done in one process with one tool.
