What changed on the floor
Cutting 50% faster
CIM Signs and Graphics is cutting a good 50% faster, with greater accuracy and very few failed cuts.
Reduced lead times
Since getting the Kongsberg, they have been able to reduce lead times and get a lot of projects ready before install or delivery, helping them keep on top of the production workflow.
Everything in-house
The extra width means they can cut bigger sheets and bigger rolls and do everything in-house now, without having to outsource.
Fewer overtime hours
The machine has stopped them doing so many overtime hours, with most of the workload now completed within a good 10 to 12 hour working day.

Discover how CIM Signs and Graphics uses the size, capabilities and tooling of its Kongsberg cutting table to cut a diverse range of materials faster and more accurately.
The story
From greater width and diversity to faster, more accurate production
The challenge
Cutting a growing variety of materials
Being a generic sign manufacturer, CIM Signs and Graphics cuts all sorts of materials, so diversity is what they really needed. They cut aluminium composite, while a massive market they have grown into is cutting Katz and Xanita board, cardboards and recyclable materials. That whole area has really grown for them, so it was absolutely imperative that the machine was good at doing what they needed it to do.
About two years ago, they invested in a SwissQ Nyala, 3.2 metres wide. Very soon after having that, they realised they needed a greater width.
The solution
The size, capabilities and tooling they needed
When they looked at the market, Kongsberg had a great offering on a 3.2 with the conveyor belt, so they could still cut things like banners, wallpapers and vinyls, as well as cutting 3 metre wide sheets sideways on the machine. It gave them the capability of cutting things much quicker and much larger.
It came down to the size of the machine, the capabilities of the machine and the tooling that they could get and easily adjust to cut the variety of products they need.
Using the 3D cutting tooling for cardboard opened some doors for them to do more than just flat-cut sheet. The VariAngle tool means they can now do a variety of shapes, opening the door in the exhibition world and the Point of Sale world.
The result
Faster cutting, reduced lead times and more work in-house
CIM Signs and Graphics is cutting a good 50% faster. What they have really noticed is the accuracy and getting it right first time, with very few failed cuts.
The new technology, the ease of programming materials and the ability to set up cut files before coming to the machine have saved them hours in time. Tool changing is also really simple, allowing operators to move between many different materials during the day.
Since getting the Kongsberg, they have been able to reduce lead times and keep on top of the production workflow. The greater width means they can cut bigger sheets and bigger rolls and do everything in-house rather than outsourcing.
